As a 3rd year social science student that is double majoring in Public Policy and City Studies with plans to pursue law school upon completion of my undergraduate degree, having the opportunity to see first had what the legal profession has to offer is an opportunity that I find invaluable. Most specifically, I am interested in technology, privacy and data management law, commercial real estate law, and international and cross-border business law.
Having spent 6 weeks in Italy to study the cross-cultural perspectives on leadership when it comes to the professional and business world was a significant point in my career that opened up the conversation about how important it is to tread with tact and care so to preserve diplomatic relations. Studying abroad has helped me immensely, where my most valuable class was the one where we went to Corleone in Sicily, which is the city with one of the highest Mafia presences in all of Italy. We learned about the impact the Mafia had on businesses and communities, and we saw first hand the poverty that the city suffered from due to these implications. In one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever had the privilege of visiting, hidden behind the quaint mountains were living conditions that were evidently screaming a not-so-beautiful reality. These are the experiences of my own that I would like to use as a foundation to learn more about how I can involved myself in the legal aspect required to make strides to improve our society and give folks a more decent way of living. So many times the initial motivation to become a lawyer is for money and status, but we often forget that there is a civic duty, a human rights aspect involved, that, when practised correctly, can be a powerful source of change for a greater good.
